HOW TO BANISH THE EXCUSES

There was a time when I wasn't as fit and healthy as I wanted to be and I became an expert at finding the right clothes to "hide" my flaws! That way, I didn't have to exercise that much as I looked fine in my clothes anyway. I've come to realize that these kind of outfits do me no flavors - because they let me get away with looking and feeling just "okay" instead of living my best life - so I got rid of them.

Entering into my 40's, I have made sure that I don't slide into a mindset that as I age, I should expect and accept that my body will change. In my line of work I constantly hear from women who are older and wiser than me but who have been dedicated to maintaining their fitness. They gave me all the proof I needed that age was no barrier (remember, no excuses) and now, my body is better than it was 10 years ago.

Excuse: My clothes fit me fine, and I'm ok the way I look right now, so for the moment, I don't really need to exercise.

Solution: Don't hide the results of a not-so-healthy lifestyle under layers of clothing. Put your health first and celebrate with a body you can be proud of. It can be easy to link size and weight with our health, but being active is just as important for your heart and mind as it is for your appearance.

Excuse: I've been naughty this weekend, so I'll start my new health and fitness regime on Monday.

Solution: Ah, the perennial Monday that never comes. The way I see it, every single day we have the opportunity to start fresh and to make good choices, regardless of what we did yesterday, or the day before, or last week, or at breakfast this morning.

So rather that "starting on Monday" with your new commitment to moving and being active, why not start today? This afternoon? Right now?
